I will be the first to say, I don’t believe in “Frilly Spa Services”. I think that grooming salons are looking for that extra add on from the latest trends in Pet Business magazines. Yes, they do bring in a little extra money, but I can’t do it in good conscience.
However, there is one service that is truely beneficial. And, I don’t consider it frilly, I consider it medicinal. HYDROSURGE THERAPY. I have seen it work wonders for dogs with skin problems or just plain old smelly dogs.
Skin is the dog’s largest organ and the first line of defense from infection and injury. Skin regulates body temperature and protects from excessive moisture loss. The coat is minimal in this area.
Skin has its own life cycle, it grows, it matures, and it sheds.
On occasion, skin problems arise when the mature skin cells do not slough off in a timely manner. This prevents the new cells from emerging, which can lead to a variety of common skin ailments that equal smelly dogs. Then, depending on if the dog has a skin condition or just a smelly dog we decide on a shampoo whether it be a medicated or a good cleansing shampoo. Some clients even bring a shampoo prescribed by their veterinarian. The shampoo is then added to the tub and the HydroSurge machine is put in the water. The machine is simply a pump which forcefully pulls the medicated water from the tub and through the hose with a special attachment.
